Details: The Institute of Biology is a division of Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Science which is one of the first-rate, key Research Centres of Russia. Research work at the Institute has covered most actual directions of fundamental and applied science by highest qualification specialists. Established in 1957 the Environmental Biochemistry Laboratory using all-time develop research methods, deal with a problem of applied ecological pattern. One of the important industry of Republic Karelia is fish industry covered fishing, growth, natural and artificial reproduction of commercially-valuable fish species and production of food from fish primary. On account of strong ecological pollution of North Europe there is a problem of primary quality for fish industry. In this connection The Laboratory has high multilateral cooperation with fish industry and that is why promote deal with some problems in this field, one and most important of which is Food Quality and Safety. Toward this end scientists of Laboratory carry out a research work such as exposure and determination of concentration of toxic substance in fish primary and food; identification of fish diseases causes, diagnostic and prophylaxis; determination of food value (contents of fat, proteins, vitamins etc.). Also the Laboratory has cooperative research and applied work with over Research Institutes for creation protein hydrolysates using for pharmaceutical, food and agriculture industries. The Laboratory has all necessary equipment and from 2005 year its potential will develop by means of PCR-laboratory.
